₹50 crore facility at MPIT, developed with TCS Foundation, to train students in AI, cybersecurity and emerging technologies.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is set to inaugurate Eastern Uttar Pradesh’s first Centre of Excellence (CoE) at Maharana Pratap Institute of Technology in Gorakhpur on April 15. The facility has been developed in collaboration with TCS Foundation and aims to strengthen technical education and skill development in the region.
The ₹50 crore centre is located near the Gorakhnath Temple and is designed to train students in advanced fields such as artificial intelligence (AI), cybersecurity, drone technology, and space sciences.
Key Announcements / Highlights
The Centre of Excellence has been established through a partnership between MPIT, TCS Foundation, and Mahayogi Gorakhnath University. It includes specialised laboratories focused on AI, cybersecurity, and drone and space technologies.
The AI lab has been developed with an investment of over ₹9 crore, while the cybersecurity lab has received more than ₹6 crore in funding. The facility is expected to support students from around 15 AICTE-approved institutions in the region.
As part of the launch, a 60-day free training programme in AI and cybersecurity has also been introduced to expand access to emerging technology skills.
Official Statement
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath described the initiative as a major step forward for education in the region. He said the centre would create new opportunities for young people, strengthen skill development, and contribute to building a self-reliant India.
The inauguration will also be attended by N. Chandrasekaran, underscoring the role of industry collaboration in advancing technical education.
Context / Background
The initiative aligns with the broader “Atmanirbhar Bharat” vision, which focuses on enhancing domestic capabilities in key sectors, including technology and innovation. Governments across India have increasingly partnered with private organisations to upgrade educational infrastructure and bridge skill gaps.
Eastern Uttar Pradesh has historically lagged behind in access to advanced technical education, making such initiatives significant for regional development.
Public Impact
The Centre of Excellence is expected to improve employability among students by providing hands-on training in high-demand technology fields. It may also encourage the growth of startups and innovation-driven enterprises in the region.
Additionally, programmes such as AI awareness for farmers aim to extend the benefits of technology beyond urban areas, potentially improving agricultural practices and productivity.
Conclusion
With the launch of the Centre of Excellence, Gorakhpur is expected to emerge as a growing hub for technology education in Eastern Uttar Pradesh. Authorities anticipate that continued collaboration between government, academia, and industry will further strengthen skill development and support long-term economic growth in the region.
