Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah extended greetings to members of the Matua community on the occasion of Matua Dharma Mela, marking the 215th birth anniversary of Harichand Thakur, revered as Purna Brahma by his followers.

The Home Minister conveyed his best wishes to the Matua community and highlighted the enduring spiritual and social teachings of Harichand Thakur.
Shah described Thakur as a “divine soul” who drew from the depth of India’s spiritual wisdom and brought forward principles of devotion, equality, and moral living. According to him, these teachings continue to guide society and inspire people across generations.

“On sacred occasion of Matua Dharma Mela marking 215th birth anniversary of Purna Brahma Shree Shree Harichand Thakur Ji, I extend my heartiest best wishes to our sisters and brothers of Matua community. A divine soul, Thakur Ji delved into the profoundity of our wisdom and brought forth the pearls of devotion, equality and moral living, which today serve as our guiding principles. May Matua Dharma Mela 2026 held in North 24 Paraganas West Bengal strengthen our commitment to these principles.”
The Matua Dharma Mela, held in North 24 Parganas, is an important religious and cultural gathering for followers of the Matua sect. The event commemorates the life and teachings of Harichand Thakur, who founded the Matua movement in the 19th century and advocated social equality and spiritual devotion.
The annual celebration attracts thousands of devotees who gather to pay tribute to the spiritual leader and reaffirm their commitment to his ideals of social harmony and ethical living.
