Toyota to Unveil New EV on March 11: Launch Details and Specifications Revealed
Summary: Toyota is gearing up to unveil a new electric vehicle (EV) on March 11, with reports suggesting that it could be the production version of the bZ4X compact crossover concept, which was first showcased in 2022. The new SUV is expected to be positioned between the larger bZ4X and the recently introduced Urban Cruiser in Toyota’s global lineup.
Toyota’s EV Expansion Strategy
The Japanese automaker has outlined an aggressive expansion strategy for its EV portfolio, with plans to introduce at least six new electric models by the end of 2026. The upcoming model is expected to compete with the Volkswagen ID.7 and other electric crossovers. Initially, the vehicle will be launched in the UK on March 11, with a global rollout expected in subsequent months.
Toyota has kept most details under wraps, only offering a single teaser image and a brief promotional video. However, it is anticipated that the production model will retain several key design elements from its concept predecessor, including a raked roofline, an extended hood, and significant overhangs, all contributing to a dynamic and stylish appearance.
Expected Specifications and Features
The new EV is likely to share some design and technical attributes with the Urban Cruiser EV, offering multiple battery options and motor configurations. One of the anticipated variants could feature an all-wheel-drive (AWD) setup, with dual electric motors powering both axles. Reports indicate that this configuration may produce approximately 181 horsepower and 221 lb-ft of torque, paired with a 61 kWh battery pack, enabling a driving range of around 240 miles. Additionally, both variants are expected to support fast charging at up to 150 kW.
Potential India Launch and Market Competition
As of now, Toyota has not announced any plans to introduce this new EV in India. The company is prioritizing the launch of an electric version of the E-Vitara in the Indian market before potentially introducing a larger SUV, possibly the Toyota bZ4X. If launched in India, the new EV would compete with models such as the Mahindra XUV.e9 and the Audi Q8 e-tron, among other premium electric SUVs.
With the global shift towards electric mobility, Toyota’s latest addition to its EV lineup is expected to strengthen its position in the expanding electric SUV segment. More details about the vehicle, including pricing and availability, are expected to be revealed at the official unveiling event on March 11.
